Reader rants: Cagereaders weigh in on Frankie Edgar?s fight, GSP?s return and more from the MMA world

With an unbelievable few weeks of MMA, Cagereaders had some really, really strong opinions. Because of your thoughts, Cagewriter decided it was a perfect time to bring back Reader Rants. Drawn from Cagewriter's Facebook page, here are thoughts from Cagewriter's readers. What are you ranting about this week? Tell us on Facebook, and you may be on our next Reader Rants.

Frankie Edgar is moving to featherweight and getting an immediate title shot against Jose Aldo at UFC 153. What say you, Cagereaders?

Interesting move for Frankie. If he doesn't win, then where does he go from there. I guess one challenge at a time? -- Mark Jimerson

Frankie has a huge chance don't count him out! -- Monzeil Jhamal Flemming

Jon Jones' reported request to Dana White to get Chael Sonnen to cool it with the trash talk also got you talking.

I don't know if I buy this story. There has been so much Jones hate, and I am sure this post will draw even more. This one sounds like BS to me. -- Eric Chism

I wonder if this is a sign of things to come with jones? Can't believe he wouldn't take the fight! I don't blame dana for feeling the way he does. I think jones is a terrific fighter, but wonder if character flaws will be a problem. I'll be watching. -- Kevin Armitage

Whether he deserves it or not, Sonnen is now the uncrowned 205 lb champ until Jones proves otherwise. Refusing to accept a challenge is the same as forfeiting. -- Jason Zachary

Georges St-Pierre was medically cleared to fight. Will he be back to his former self? Cagereaders weighed in.

I hope not. I hope he will fight to win instead of fight to not lose his belt. Maybe knowing that Condit has the interim belt it will motivate him to prove he deserves to be the champion. -- David Bernetich

There is no upside to the time off, obviously. It's a negative performance-deflating incident no matter how great his rehab went. The only question is if he is indeed good enough to come away with a win against Condit so that he can get BACK to where he should be AFTER the fight...no doubt in my mind this will be his biggest challenge in his entire life...any athletes out there would agree with me. -- Kyle Ertl

Anderson Silva said he didn't finish Thales Leites because of their friendships. Here's what Cagereaders had to say about this.

During one of Joe Louis's title defenses, he fought John Henry Lewis. Before the fight, Joe told his trainer that he didn't feel comfortable fighting such a good friend of his. Joe planed on carrying John for the full 15 rounds because he
did not want to hurt him.

Joe's trainer stated that he would be more likely to hurt John if he were to carrying him the full fight. Therefore, Joe went out and KOed John in the first round.

Both continued to be good friends. John Henry Lewis retired after his fight with Joe. It was the biggest purse of his career. -- Wrestling Roots

Its an embarrassment to the sport. They are professional fighters so they should act like it. -- Helio Fabian Rangel

Improve Your Home with the Right French Doors 1 - french-doors-cottage

French doors are often referred by the majority as French windows; they are simply doors that consist of small windows occupying the full length of the door. They have been known to compliment both the interior d?cor and the exterior look of any home which is predominantly what they have been designed to achieve. They are ideal in letting in the natural light from the outside into the house, giving the room a brighter and airy look.? French doors can be installed in the back, the front and the patio of the home. They are also perfect for giving a beautiful view of a perfectly manicured lawn or flower garden when inside the house. They can last a lifetime if installed and manufactured with high levels of professional expertise employed and with the best material.

According to real estate experts, French doors are able to increase the value of a home which obviously reflects in the price. In case one decides to sell their home someday, the French doors entailing the home features will definitely aid fetching a good price.

They can be used either as exterior doors or interior doors with different designs.

?

Exterior French Doors

?

French doors can be used as exterior doors, mainly for the house?s exterior as the name suggests and are often used as entry doors. Since they are exposed to the onslaught of weather conditions such as strong winds, severe storms or even hurricanes, these doors tend to be sturdier to enable them to withstand such. They are mostly made from double paned glass or tempered glass ? a stronger type compared to the normal glass used on the interior French doors. The door material can be either wood, metal or fibreglass. One is advised to opt for hardwood types if they decide to select wood as their exterior French door material.

?

Interior French Doors

?

Used as an interior door, the French door will accentuate the interior d?cor and achieve the spacious look inside the home. It is perfect for adjoining two interior rooms and, often times, acts as a partition. Just like exterior French doors, this door can be made from wood, metal or fibreglass.

?

French Door Designs

?

Whether interior or exterior the French doors also come in various designs such as:-

The Sliding French Doors

They are a great piece for the balcony area of the home because of the small space available. They slide, as the name suggests, whenever they open and close.

The Pocket French Doors

If one intends to save on space when it is limited, then these types of doors are the way to go.? Instead of the normal opening by the hinges, they slide into the wall. They are perfect for a modern house and really pull off that high tech look in a home.

The Bi-fold and Multi-Fold French Doors

The bi-fold unit contains two to four sections folding in twos. The width of each door is about 6 feet. They are best for walk-in closets in a home. The multi-fold door units on the other hand are suitable for places where folding doors are required to cover a wider area. They are mostly used as room dividers or in hall partitioning. They are normally 12 to 42 inches wide.

?

Improve Your Home with the Right French Doors 3

French doors are a great way to make a home stand out and look exotic. They give the appearance of sophistication or modernity depending with whatever way one looks at them. They are great-looking for a home and require professionals during installation. They are easy to use and require minimal maintenance.

?

French door adorning tip

?

After installing a French door in the home, it is only wise to get beautiful coverings such as really exceptional door curtains or shades especially if they are exterior French doors. Japanese pachinko mogul sues Wynn Resorts in Tokyo

(AP) ? Japanese pachinko tycoon Kazuo Okada has filed a lawsuit in Tokyo District Court seeking $140 million in damages from casino operator Wynn Resorts.

Universal Entertainment said in a statement Wednesday that it is seeking damages for harm caused to its share price and business due to Wynn's decision to remove Okada as a board member and reclaim the $2.77 billion of shares in the company owned by Okada's company, Universal Entertainment Corp.

Okada and billionaire Steve Wynn, the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts, are former friends and business partners, but have been trading accusations of improprieties as regulators investigate alleged violations of U.S. anti-corruption laws on both sides.

The lawsuit filed in Tokyo this week is demanding 11 billion yen ($140 million) in damages. It alleges that Wynn's actions and comments hurt Universal Entertainment's stock price, hindering its business opportunities and damaging Okada's reputation.

"This action asserts that Steve Wynn has indulged in fraud, deception, theft and betrayal to maintain control of his gaming enterprises and enrich himself based on a false and predetermined pretext," Universal Entertainment said in a statement.

Universal's spokesman in Tokyo was not immediately available for comment. Wynn's staff in Macau referred inquiries to their offices in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The two sides have been feuding for months. Wynn refused to back Okada's plan to build a $2 billion casino resort project in the Philippines, saying it would compete with Wynn Resorts' own business there. Meanwhile, Wynn commissioned an investigation and sued Okada in Nevada for alleged breach of his fiduciary duties and other "gross improprieties."

In March, Universal countersued, questioning a donation by Wynn Resorts to the University of Macau that is now being probed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and Nevada Gaming Commission as a possible violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

One of Japan's wealthiest businessmen, with net worth over $1.8 billion according to Forbes, Okada started out selling jukeboxes and then expanded into selling the machines used in pachislot, or slot machines, and pachinko, a popular form of pinball that skirts Japan's law against gambling by awarding prizes that players can later swap for cash.

Wynn Resorts' articles of incorporation provide for redemption at "fair value" of the shares held by "unsuitable" individuals. After designating Okada as unsuitable, the company sought to redeem the shares, valued at about $2.7 billion in mid-February, for about $1.9 billion.

ALBANY, GA. --

Summer is a time when we see more mosquitoes and for FOX 31?s Facebook story of the day, locals wanted to know whether or not the spray officials use the keep the insects at bay is harmful to pets.

Dougherty County Public Works officials have been out spraying and monitoring areas that are prone to mosquito growth.

They say the spray that comes from their trucks is harmless.

?The mosquito spray is environmentally safe. Basically you would have to drink it in order for it to be harmful to you because of the small microns that comes out of the sprayer,? says Donell Mathis, Dougherty County Public Works Environmental Control Manager.

Mathis says as we get more rain this week people should be sure to drain any sitting water around their homes because it can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Things to drain could include old tires, small pools and bird baths.

'Science Guy' Bill Nye takes aim at evolution deniers

In a video by the online knowledge forum Big Think, science educator Bill Nye urged parents to let their children's schools teach evolutionary biology.?

By Eoin O'Carroll,?Staff / August 27, 2012

Evolution is the fundamental idea in all of life science, in all of biology. According to Bill Nye, aka "the science guy," if grownups want to "deny evolution and live in your world that's completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that's fine, but don't make your kids do it because we need them."

That all known life shares?a common ancestor is just about as well-established a scientific observation as you're going to get. It's right?up there with ice floating on water and the moon not being made of cheese. And the scientific explanation for all the complexity and diversity of life on Earth ? first outlined by Charles Darwin some 150 years ago and continually refined since then ? remains the linchpin of the life sciences.?

' + google_ads[0].line2 + '
' + google_ads[0].line3 + '

'; } else if (google_ads.length > 1) { ad_unit += ''; } } document.getElementById("ad_unit").innerHTML += ad_unit; google_adnum += google_ads.length; return; } var google_adnum = 0; google_ad_client = "pub-6743622525202572"; google_ad_output = 'js'; google_max_num_ads = '1'; google_feedback = "on"; google_ad_type = "text"; google_adtest = "on"; google_image_size = '230x105'; google_skip = '0'; // -->

Of course none of this prevents staggering numbers of Americans from rejecting evolution. According to a 2007 Gallup survey, about four in 10 Americans believe that "God created human beings pretty much in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years or so," an assertion that is, by any reasonable standard of evidence, nonsense.?

But creationism isn't just ordinary nonsense. It's politicized?nonsense. Nonsense that prompts TV shouting matches and comment-thread flame wars. Nonsense that bids rise to multimillion-dollar think tanks. Nonsense that makes journalists see a scientific controversy where none exists. Nonsense that ruins Thanksgiving dinner, causes high school buddies to defriend each other on Facebook, and eventually leads someone to stand up and make an exasperated call to Think Of The Children.

Which is what Bill Nye did. In a video for the Big Think, an online knowledge forum, science educator Bill Nye notes that Darwin's theory is essential for anyone who wants to make sense of the natural world, and that it is vitally important that kids accept it.

"We need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future," he says. "We need engineers that can build stuff, solve problems."?

Nye says: "I say to the grownups,?if you want to deny evolution and live in your world, in your world that's completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that's fine, but don't make your kids do it because we need them."

But simply asking people to stop passing their beliefs on to their kids probably isn't going to do the trick. Even as scientists are busily mapping the genomes of humankind's closest relatives, creationists are only getting more brazen. Witness the taxpayer-financed Christian schools in?Louisiana?whose biology textbooks cite the?Loch Ness Monster?as 'evidence'?against Darwin.

Nye predicts that creationism will be dead in a few hundred years. But, as he is surely aware, that's pure conjecture.?Nobody knows what people living centuries from now will think of Darwin and the hexameron. It's far too early in the game to start placing bets against nonsense.?

We need a unique identifier number | Kiwiblog

Stuff reports:

Severe deficiencies in the law are giving criminals ?a simple means for identity theft? by making it easy to change their names, an investigation has revealed.

Former ombudsman Mel Smith uncovered the loopholes while investigating how convicted paedophile Te Rito Henry Miki was able to teach at six schools. ?

The inquiry into the employment of Miki found he was easily able to steal the identity of a registered teacher friend, who emigrated to Australia in 2009, and to adopt his teacher registration.

Miki ? who accumulated 53 separate aliases ? subsequently applied to the office of the registrar-general to change his friend?s name to another identity.

Name change applicants only have to supply a statutory declaration, sworn before a court official, lawyer or justice of the peace ? who needs only to ask if the contents are accurate. The applicant is not required to present verification of authentication or any other supporting documents to the registrar-general. ?

The registrar-general is not required to inform the Passport Office, Customs or Immigration of a name change. If the relevant agencies had been notified, then when the friend first returned to New Zealand in September 2009 ?the theft of identity would have become known and acted on at that time?, the report said.

Miki was arrested in February and was jailed for about four years.

Mr Smith said an average of 7375 people changed their name every year.

?Most of those, I?m sure, would be for perfectly proper and lawful reasons but . . . unfortunately New Zealand society is not as honest as it used to be.?

There was anecdotal evidence an official name change was available to people who wanted to get past the border ?having legal obligations here, whether that?s child support, unpaid fines or even something much more serious?, he said.

I think there is a simple solution ? like in the US. Every individual is assigned a unique identity number. Then you can change your name to whatever you like, but it will be linked to your UIN, which means?pedophiles?will not be able to get jobs in schools no matter what name they change to.

You?d need some privacy restrictions on which government agencies can access your UIN and identity for which reasons, but that shouldn?t be a reason not to allow the Government to accurately identify people for legitimate reasons.

Oster Dog Grooming Clippers ? Experience The Quality For Yourself at

Most owners prefer taking their dogs to the salon or spa, since it also means some indulgence for their beloved pets. If you feel that you want to care for your pet at home, always buy your dog its own set of products. There is always plenty of love that is waiting to be shared. The rest can be kept at bay.

So let us break these benefits down a little and go through them piece by piece; reverting to the health benefits we mentioned, firstly when we think dog care and grooming we immediately think of brushing our dog so let?s start there. When you brush your dog you remove all the dead hair from their coat, leaving only the healthy, this eliminates many of the bad odors emitted by your dog?s coat, as well as helps to keep them cooler, looks cleaner and reduces your dogs scratching and itching.

dog grooming is not just an easy task and does not only mean giving your dog a regular bath or clipping their nails. It includes proper technique and usage of the right tools to make your dog comfortable every time you groom him. When you can do this you will surely become the best dog groomer for him and you could also have bonding time with your pet.

How often you brush your dog again depends on the hair type but as a general rule you can brush your dog everyday. Not only will it keep their coat shiny, but it improves blood circulation and it is a wonderful opportunity to bond with your dog.

When you have a pet of any kind, you are bound to take special care of it. Although most pet owners consider their pets to be a part of their family, we are all aware that the pet is an animal and has individual needs of its own. And whether it is about their food, their walks and exercises, health and fitness or even their grooming, it is important that every owner knows what the demands of their pets are, and cater to them well. For no matter how much you love your pet and how much they love you back, love is not always enough.

Groomers are skilled professionals who have the experience and equipment to safely groom dogs of all sizes and breeds. Trying to trim the hair or nails of a rowdy, squirming dog can result in injury to the dog if you don?t have the means and know-how to safely secure the pet. For dogs who hate having their feet touched and nails trimmed, it can result in an injurious bite to the human as well. Groomers have the equipment needed to take care of all grooming chores safely and comfortably for the dog.

Toenails: A dog?s foot will become damaged if the toenails are allowed to grow too long. Ideally, your Pomeranian?s nails should be cut weekly to maintain the best foot health, but you must cut your dog?s nails at least once every two weeks.

You might consider the bristle brushes if your dogs have shorter hair. This is also suitable for dogs that have sensitive skin. Slicker brush is best for dogs that have matted hair. Other grooming tools that you may need are combs, clippers, trimmers, towel and many more.

A dog bed is a bed designed especially for the sleeping comfort of a dog. It should be the snug retreat to where it retires to take sweet dreams at the end of a long and active day. Good dog beds play a very important part in keeping your dog in good health. An improper sleep may very much affect the health of a dog, thus dog masters should be very careful when buying dog pet beds. Dog beds and dog bedding include a dog bed mattress, dog bed sheets, dog bed cover, dog bed cushions, dog pillows, dog blankets and dog quilts or duvets.

Eventually she will enjoy it and allow you to do it easily. Why not have it done just once so youll at least know what youre missing?

Prop 8 Opponents Ask Supreme Court To Pass On Gay Marriage Case

Two gay couples challenging the constitutionality of Proposition 8, California's gay marriage ban, have asked the Supreme Court to refuse to hear an appeal by gay marriage foes.

Two lower courts have sided with plaintiffs, and last month Prop 8 backers asked the high court to review the case.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs, led by Ted Olson and David Boies, argued in a court filing on Friday that while the case could be an ?attractive vehicle? for determining ?whether the States may discriminate against gay men and lesbians in the provision of marriage licenses,? the court's review is ?not warranted? because a lower court had already arrived at the correct legal conclusion.

?[T]he Ninth Circuit found that eliminating the ability of gay and lesbian couples to have their relationships designated as marriages ? and relegating them to separate and unequal domestic partnerships ? achieves nothing except the marginalization of gay and lesbian individuals and their relationships, and therefore cannot withstand constitutional scrutiny. That holding is fully consistent with this Court's jurisprudence, which has long held that marginalizing a group of citizens for its own sake violates the Fourteenth Amendment.?

Should the Supreme Court decide against taking the case, the marriages of gay and lesbian couples would resume in California.

Pakistan: US drones hit militant hideouts, kill 18

ISLAMABAD (AP) ? U.S. drones fired missiles at three hideouts in a key militant sanctuary close to the Afghan border Friday, killing 18 suspected insurgents in the latest of a series of strikes conducted this week despite protests from Islamabad, Pakistani intelligence officials said.

The strikes all took place in the North Waziristan tribal area, the target of a planned Pakistani military operation that the U.S. expects in the near future. Hundreds of militants and their family members have streamed out of North Waziristan in the past few days in anticipation of the operation, local residents said.

Washington has long demanded Pakistan target militants holed up in North Waziristan and has welcomed the planned operation in the area. But Islamabad is likely to focus on Taliban militants who have been at war with Pakistan, not those who have been fighting the U.S.-led coalition in neighboring Afghanistan.

In a string of strikes Friday just minutes apart, U.S. missiles slammed into mud brick compounds located several kilometers (miles) from each other in the Shawal Valley, a heavily forested, mountainous area in North Waziristan that serves as one of the key crossing points for militants heading into Afghanistan, Pakistani intelligence officials said.

Eighteen suspected militants were killed and another 14 were wounded, the officials said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media. It was not immediately clear which militant group was hit.

The U.S. has carried out seven drone strikes in the past week in North Waziristan, ignoring repeated Pakistani protests that they violate the country's sovereignty and international law. The covert CIA attacks have increasingly become a point of public conflict between the two countries, complicating an already troubled relationship that is vital to the outcome of war in neighboring Afghanistan.

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry summoned a senior U.S. diplomat Thursday to protest the strikes, and the ministry's spokesman, Moazzam Ahmad Khan, called the attacks "illegal, unproductive" during his weekly press briefing Friday.

But the reality behind the scenes is more nuanced ? Pakistan secretly supported the strikes in the past, and U.S. officials say privately that key members of the government and military still do.

They Americans view the public denunciations of the strikes as a political tool to appease the large number of Pakistanis who disapprove of the missile attacks, and insist they have no intention of holstering a key weapon in the fight against Taliban and al-Qaida militants who threaten the West.

Pakistani officials have asked the U.S. to feed intelligence gathered by drones to Pakistani jets and ground forces so they can target the militants. But American officials say Pakistan has proved incapable or unwilling to target militants the U.S considers dangerous.

Last Saturday, a U.S. drone struck a militant hideout in North Waziristan, killing five allies of a powerful warlord, Hafiz Gul Bahadur, whose forces often attack U.S. troops in Afghanistan. American drones fired a flurry of missiles into the area Sunday, killing 10 suspected militants in two separate strikes. On Tuesday, missiles targeting a vehicle in North Waziristan killed five more suspected militants.

One of the reasons President Barack Obama increased the number of drone attacks in Pakistan when he took office in 2009 was the government's refusal to launch an offensive in North Waziristan against militants who carry out cross-border attacks against American forces in Afghanistan.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta recently said Islamabad plans to launch an operation in North Waziristan in the near future targeting the Pakistani Taliban, who have waged a bloody insurgency against the government in Islamabad for years.

Pakistani military officials have said they will slowly increase pressure on the militants in North Waziristan, rather than conduct a sweeping offensive in the area. North Waziristan is the only area in Pakistan's tribal region where the military has not conducted an offensive.

Analysts have said they doubt Pakistan will target militants in North Waziristan responsible for attacks in Afghanistan because they are not seen as much of a threat to the state. Also, Pakistan has historical links with some of the Afghan militants operating in the area, especially the so-called Haqqani network, and many analysts believe Islamabad sees them as key potential allies in Afghanistan after foreign forces withdraw.

Many of the militants who started fleeing North Waziristan in vehicles on Thursday were from Central Asian countries like Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, local residents said on condition of anonymity out of fear for their safety. They also included some Arabs and fighters from Chechnya. Many foreign fighters in North Waziristan are closely allied with the Pakistani Taliban.

Pakistani Taliban militants were seen patrolling the area, but did not seem to be fleeing. Some local tribesmen were looking for homes outside of North Waziristan to which they could flee, but did not seem overly concerned about reports of an upcoming military operation.

By Friday, around 1,000 people, including wives and children of the foreign militants, had fled from four villages surrounding Mir Ali, one of the main towns in North Waziristan and a key sanctuary for militants fighting in Pakistan, said local residents. It appeared the militants would either head across the border to Afghanistan or to the neighboring South Waziristan tribal area.

The Pakistani army conducted a major offensive against the Pakistani Taliban in South Waziristan in 2009, but many militants simply fled and others still operate freely in certain areas.

Imtiaz Gul, director of the Islamabad-based Center for Research and Security Studies, said reports of an operation in North Waziristan would also give militants time to flee rather than face the army.

"They won't wait for the rockets to fall or the troops to capture them," said Gul.

Searching for deals: How are hotel prices determined?

A consumer alert for all of us who book vacations online: Are the prices at hotels fixed so you pay more and don't get a deal? TODAY National Investigative Correspondent Jeff Rossen looked into it.

    1. Police: At least 10 shot, 2 dead in NYC shooting

Police say at least 10 people were shot and 2 people, including the shooter, are dead after an incident outside the Empire...

We all want a great deal. So when you're booking a trip, you go online and shop around for the best price: Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz. But now, big accusations of price-fixing ? that the travel websites and hotel chains are scheming together so you don't get a deal, no matter how hard you look.

The commercials are convincing: Use our website and you'll get the best deal out there. From the Travelocity guarantee to Expedia's "best price" and the Orbitz "hot hotel deals."

But a new lawsuit claims you're wasting your time, accusing the biggest travel sites of conspiring with the nation's most popular hotel chains to fix the prices of rooms so you can't get a lower rate online. Attorney Steve Berman filed the suit on behalf of customers.

"This is the industry's dirty little secret," Berman said. "They're not offering the lowest price or the best price, they're offering a fixed higher price."

Story: Rossen Reports: Are you getting what you pay for at the pump?

The lawsuit claims it's an "anti-competitive scheme": Instead of these sites having price wars, which is good for the consumer, they've all agreed to sell rooms at the same price. That way, the sites don't undercut each other, and they all profit.

"The winner here are the Internet travel companies, and the losers are consumers," Berman said.

Story: Rossen Reports: Are top websites in business with counterfeiters?

To see for ourselves, we looked up rates for a refundable king room at a San Diego hotel. On five different sites ? Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, Booking.com and Hotels.com ? we got the same price: $189.

    3. Rossen Reports: Can you believe diet frozen dessert labels?
    4. Rossen Reports: Are sunscreen labels misleading you?

"The fact is that a consumer is led to believe that if he or she looks through a whole bunch of websites, you're gonna find the best deal," said Mark Orwoll of Travel + Leisure magazine. "The fact is, that's a sham because there is really no best deal. It's all the SAME deal."

Video: Are travel websites and hotels fixing prices? (on this page)

The hotel chains deny breaking the law and say they'll fight the suit, as does Orbitz, which says the case misrepresents how hotel reservations are marketed online. Travelocity denies any anti-competitive behavior. The others declined to comment or did not return our calls.

"The effect on consumers is they're being deceived, and they're overpaying on their hotel rooms," Berman said.

The lawsuit demands money back for customers, and a stop to the alleged price-fixing. In the meantime, experts say, before you book online, call the hotel itself. Tell them, "Hey, this is the lowest rate I'm finding ? can you do better?" Sometimes, over the phone, they will.

Scarlet Motors promises an open EV design process

Scarlet Motors launching today, promises an open EV design process

It's not every day that you see a new EV manufacturer get started; it's even less common when the company promises a switch-up of the typical automaker's formula. Scarlet Motors has made its formal debut with an aim towards the same kind of openness in its electric sports cars that founder Julien Fourgeaud would be familiar with from his days at Nokia and the Symbian Foundation. In addition to giving a peek behind the curtain, Tesla-style, Finland-based Scarlet wants future (and eventually current) drivers to influence the design choices themselves, both through a dedicated community as well as Facebook and Twitter. We'll get more details in time, but those that just can't wait can sign up to the community beta and help shape what might become their next ride.

Remodeling Your Home One Room at a Time ? Part One

Remodeling Your Home One Room at a Time ? Part One

Posted by Raymond Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning on Wed, Aug 22, 2012

Bathroom RemodelingThe homeowner can really do themselves a favor in today?s economy by doing a bit of remodeling. The price of construction materials has been down and many contractors are offering very competitive estimates to keep their crews working.

The general uproar created in the household by a remodeling project can usually be reduced by doing one room at a time. Partial remodeling usually concentrates on two rooms ? the bathroom and the kitchen. There are a number of things that can be done in a bathroom that will enhance your everyday routine and could increase the value of your home without a tremendous investment. Watch our tutorial?on installing the Moen io Digital vertical spa and see just one new bathroom extra that is available.

The green age is with us and that has brought some improvements that you might want to consider when renovating a bathroom. Most new showerheads and faucets now use less water than older ones. These low flow products can take a bit off the water bill and be friendlier to the environment. Your carbon footprint does include power needed to get water processed and sent to your home, so low flow faucets and shower heads are a must if minimizing your carbon footprint is an end goal. There are also toilets that help reduce the water used in the home so be advised when upgrading this fixture too.

A conversation with one of our Lorain County plumbing and heating?experts is a logical place to start when getting information on bathroom remodeling. Over the course of the last 5 decades, we have provided the Lorain County area with expert advice, professional workmanship and the latest in advances to make any remodeling job a success. Schedule an appointment today?with one of our professionals before making any remodeling decisions.

Lenovo's seven-inch Android 4.0 tablet passes federal testing, on course for September release

Lenovo's seveninch Android 40 tablet passes federal testing, should be ready for September release date

While pricing hasn't revealed whether it'll spar with the Nexus 7 for the hearts of bargain tablet shoppers, Lenovo's smaller Android 4.0 slab, the A2107, has called in at the FCC. Again, there's not all that much we can glean from a tablet that's prone and turned off, but it does give the product another nudge towards launching next month. Fans of all things radio and wireless can peruse the official filing at the source below.

Romney, Ryan turn Medicare attacks back on Obama

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are trying to turn the tables on President Obama, making what Democrats had thought was a weakness -- their Medicare plan -- into a strength in the presidential race.

Since Ryan was introduced as Romney's running mate on the presumptive GOP ticket, all the talk of the campaign has been about Medicare, not the economy.

That's because the Democrats tried to use the Wisconsin congressman's plan to overhaul Medicare, essentially turning it into a voucher program for seniors to buy their own health insurance, to undermine support for Romney.

But now, with the Republican National Convention just a week away, Romney, Ryan and their surrogates are using Medicare to hammer Obama, focusing on a $716 billion cut in funding for the program that was part of the Affordable Care Act.

Ryan included those same cuts in his signature budget plan -- the same plan Romney has said he would sign if he becomes president -- but Ryan says he was forced to build his plan on those cuts because they were already signed into law.

The $716 billion in cuts to Medicare in the Affordable Care Act do not affect benefits for seniors. Instead, they reduce provider reimbursements and are intended to curb waste, fraud and abuse, but that has not stopped the GOP attacks.

"Medicare should not be used as a piggy bank for 'Obamacare," Ryan said Saturday in a speech at The Villages, Fla., the nation's largest retirement community. "Medicare should be used to be the promise that it made to our current seniors. Period. End of story."

Obama himself acknowledged the strategy.

"I guess they figure the best defense is to try to go on offense," he said Saturday in New Hampshire.

Romney's top advisor said the president is right, and added that it seems to be working.

"This is first election cycle I can remember in a long time where Democrats are on the defensive because of Medicare," Romney senior advisor Eric Fehrnstrom said today on CNN's "State of the Union."

If they can convince voters that the president's health care plan is the one that is threatening Medicare, not Ryan's, they could effectively neutralize some of the concerns about whether the addition of the conservative Wisconsin congressman to the ticket might alienate centrist independent voters.

"They're trying to neutralize the negatives while accentuating the positive parts of the Ryan budget and the Ryan plan, which is this is forward looking, it's bold," ABC News Political Director Amy Walter said. "They want to go into Tampa on their toes. And then to pivot from that offense on to the broader argument, which is this is a referendum on President Obama's handling of the economy."

But Obama hasn't exactly gone on the defensive about his Medicare approach, instead keeping up the attacks on the Republicans' plan.

"What they want to do is they want seniors to get a voucher to buy their own insurance, which could force seniors to pay an extra $6,400 a year for their health care," he said Saturday in New Hampshire.

And he found a new line of criticism of Ryan's economic proposals, taking a swipe at his plan from 2010 that would have eliminated capital gains taxes altogether.

"He put forward a plan that would let Governor Romney pay less than 1 percent in taxes each year," the president said. "And here's the kicker -- he expects you to pick up the tab."
